ESSAY GLIMMERS

Undergraduate College Admissions And Essay Consulting for 11th and 12th grade students

This is what our support looks like.

College and Career Exploration: We engage students in a wide array of activities to help them identify colleges and careers that best align with their career goals and interests and fit their personalities. Some students thrive at larger institutions, whereas others shine best in smaller, intimate learning spaces. As we get to know our students as the unique human beings they are, we collaborate with them to curate a personalized college list and identify a major that they feel confident pursuing. Throughout the college and career exploration process, we meet with parents and families, offering additional support and guidance as they work with their students to make sound decisions about their higher education.

Essay Coaching and Consultation: As early as the spring of a student’s 11th-grade year, students work one-on-one with an essay coach and education specialist who walks them through each step of the process of brainstorming, ideating, drafting, revising, and editing their personal statement and supplemental essays. We work with students to identify aspects of their life experiences that are unique to them and guide them through curating essays that highlight their strengths, values, and commitments to advancing their education and contributing to local and global communities. We provide students with task lists and biweekly communications to keep them on track and ensure they meet each application deadline. Students also receive coaching on all of their supplemental and scholarship essays as a part of our comprehensive admissions and essay coaching packages.

College Selection and Forward Planning: As students begin receiving their college acceptances, we offer an additional service that provides them and their families with consultation around college selection and how to plan for their first year of college. We work as a team to make sound decisions based on a student's interests, career goals, and financial needs. Additionally, we help students identify specific ways they can get involved on campus, how to collaborate with university faculty to build positive relationships, and how to identify additional services available to students, such as tutoring, writing center support, and more, to help them have a meaningful and invigorating first year at college.

Our Process

1. We begin our process by meeting with students and their guardians to build a comprehensive college application plan and college list that aligns with students’ higher education and career goals. During our initial meetings, we provide consultation around best-fit schools, application strategies, and how to stand out as students embark on the resume building and essay writing aspect of their application process.

2. Once goals have been set and college lists have been curated, a student begins meeting with their essay coach routinely to begin creating their resume and activities list for their Common Application and to begin drafting their personal statement. Once a student has a final, polished personal statement written and after supplemental essay topics have been released for the current academic year, they will continue meeting with their coach as needed to outline, draft, and revise their supplemental essays. At this stage, coaches work doubly as writing specialists and project managers, ensuring students stay on track with their deadlines.

3. After students begin receiving their acceptance notifications, we provide consultation, as needed, to strategize the decision-making process. We work collaboratively with students and their families to determine what takes priority when selecting which college to attend. Once students make their final decisions, we keep in touch, checking in with them throughout their first semester at college, offering guidance, support, and resources as they navigate their new learning environments. If requested, coaches can continue to provide students with writing resources and coaching to help them build confidence in their writerly identities while navigating their first year in higher education.

  • “Chelsea was very understanding and took time to understand my son’s academic and non-academic interests. Together, they went through his personal statement multiple times to arrive at the final draft. My son managed to secure a 25% scholarship from his current university. I highly recommend Chelsea and her services to any parent/guardian looking to secure a spot for their children's university admission with a scholarship.”
