She is a scholar in the field of education, having published several peer-reviewed articles that investigate the art of teaching and learning.

For her dissertation, she drew upon humanizing theories and pedagogies of love, designing a writing community with preservice teachers that supported them in developing their practice as writers and teachers of writing. Through her dissertation research, she learned first-hand the importance of fostering writing experiences for youth that invite them to bring their authentic selves into their writing. As a teacher-educator, she has supported over 50 students in fulfilling the requirements to attain professional teaching certifications.

While completing her Ph.D. in education, Chelsea served as an instructional coach for preservice teachers. Additionally, she worked as the co-coordinator of the Online Composition Hub with the University of Colorado, Boulder’s Continuing Education Department, a fully online writing center that supports students across the campus with crafting resumes, cover letters, course papers, presentations, and more. Through this role, she facilitated workshops for university faculty, teaching about the ins and outs of implementing humanizing writing practices across academic disciplines.
